ZSNES was open sourced in 2001 and there hasn't been movement on it in over a decade despite its massive following back in the day. Snes9x used to be closed source then the main dev opened it up and basically walked away a while after, development on it ground to a halt for the most part for years despite it still being one of the most popular/well known SNES emulators. Pretty much any emulator dies once the main dev(s) stop work on it regardless if it's closed or open.
